When Mattie and I were kids we got our picture taken by my dad’s friend who was a photographer. My mom made out dresses out of polka dot fabric and lace bibs. Tres 80s! But it seems like the 80s are coming back, and peplums are once again in style. There was always one photo in particular that we all liked, I think because it captured mine and Mattie’s relationship pretty accurately:
So for Christmas this year we decided to try to recreate the photo! I had recently seen a Vogue pattern that looked easy and also featured a peplum, and the fabric my mom used was pretty basic, so I figured I’d be able to find something similar. And lo and behold, I did!
So I then had to sew a clothing pattern (twice) with no help! Luckily this pattern was actually really easy, although I messed the zipper up a little, I see now what I should have done, and it looked fine since we werent actually going to wear these shirts outside of….. Sear’s Portrait Studio! Which is where we went next, once the shirts were done. It was a funny experience going into Sears in downtown Chicago, checking out the mighty nasty Kardashian Kollection (I assume that’s how they are spelling that) and then having our photographer tell us to do all kinds of goofy poses. However, we got some good shots that we liked, and the managed to sell us way more pics than we originally planned on buying. Ah well, MEMORIES!
Here is the final product:
The picture itself had dust on it, it’s not actually part of the photo.
And here is the side by side shot, which we presented on Christmas morning. Both my parents we excited and seemed to love it. Even my dad who normally says everything is “fine,” no matter how good or bad it actually is.
We decided we may be in a little bit of a rut since out hair looks almost exactly the same as it did in 1989. So, I’ll take hair suggestions! I guess we will have to do this again in 2025? See you then!

I love this!!!!!!!!!!
