Job Huntin’ and Killin’ Time in Nashville

Hola, ya’ll! Day 2 of my job hunt has commenced. I’ve been to about ten restaurants in the last 2 days. It’s very tiring. Just pounding the pavement, basically making a bunch of cold calls. Can’t wait to have something nailed down!

So today I slept in at Alissa’s and then drove over to the apartments I’ll hopefully be moving into very soon to meet with the lady, sign some papers, and pick out a unit. They were new, spacious, and I can see the river. Fun! There is a coffee shop across the street called Crema that I am excited to try.

After that I headed over to East Nashville and had coffee and an egg bagel at Bongo Java coffee.

Another delicious latte!

Another delicious latte!

Not quite as rich as yesterday’s, but still really good. Good atmosphere too. Then I walked to a place called Marche, talked to the manager there and dropped off my resume. Then I stopped at a great wine store so I could buy some hostess gifts for the non-pregnant friends I’ll be seeing in Indy and Chicago in the next few days. The guy there was really helpful and then when I was buying the wine we started chatting (I never do this, but I feel like chatting is a Southern thing to do, so I am embracing it). Turns out he is a writer too, waiting to hear back about some MFA programs. He told me about a writers group, some reading series, he told me that Lorrie Moore now works at Vanderbilt (LOVE HER!), and I told him about Naropa and VSC. Yes! I made a friend already. That was fun.

I stopped at a cute organic grocery store called the Turnip Truck and bought Jeff some oranges for his birthday since Alissa got him a electric citrus juicer. Then I stopped at a French place called Margot, and talked to the owner, Margot, who told me to call her next week. I would love to work there! It’s really popular and cool (like me;) ).

Stopped at the post office as well, then drove to the West End, wandered around a fabric shop that was good, but way overpriced. Weirdly expensive. I mean, quilting cotton for $14 a yard? I dont think so. Now I am killing time at yet another coffee shop (love this town!) called Portland Brewery until I go meet my friend Alison for dinner. I had a hot apple cider that was awesome!

I have an interview tomorrow afternoon, so wish me luck. So far so good, I think. Just really want to sign my lease so I can rest easy about having an apartment….

  1. Man! All of this is my old stomping ground! My husband and I both worked at Portland Brew. My good friend, Zack Gresham still does:) I also worked at Bongo Java for a hot minute. I LOVED the wine shop in East Nashville (a pit stop every night after work) and Margot’s is a great restaurant! :) We lived on Eastland, so we literally lived right there:) It was such a nice part of town. These posts are making me miss Nashville. Especially the coffee! :)
