Happy Spring!

Happy first week of spring everyone! It is mostly sunny here, but not very warm yet. I continually get tricked because I see so much sunshine out my window. To a Chicagoan sunshine means warmth! So I don’t wear my jacket. And then I’m chilly, but chilly is better than freezing so I’ll take it!

This is been such a good week so far! I ate some delicious burrata on crusty bread with olive oil and sea salt. It’s one of my favorite snacks, and all ingredients can be purchased at Trader Joe’s.

On Monday night after a work meeting a couple people were going to try out a restaurant I’ve been interested in, called Rolf and Daughters. It is about 2 blocks from where I work so we headed over and sat at the bar (with a really cute bartender…). The drinks were delicious! The cauliflower with currants and smoked almonds was divine. My homemade pasta was very good too, and it was fun to be out with some new people. Very fun!

I also started to some experimenting for a secret project that I will hopefully be able to fill you in on soon. I’ve just been having fun trying my hand at dyeing some textiles. The most successful colors came from turmeric (the yellow), tea, plum skins, and paprika (more orangey in real life). Beets were a big let down and didnt dye the fabric at all!

Today in the mail I got 2 presents! One awesome box o’ goods from Mattie with two new work shirts, a really cool book she told me about when she was visiting, and a glass water bottle I’ve been coveting. I have already drank two bottles full! I also got a book from Adam that looks really cool. I do a lot of writing focused on color, and this book is all about blue. I’m excited to check them both out!

I also went on my first run today since moving here (and since Thanksgiving). I really just wanted to go so I could take some pics, but whatever, at least I went! I saw one tree that has blossoms on it, so I am hopeful that it should be warming up any day now.

I also explored the pedestrian bridge that crosses from downtown, over the river to East Nashville and the football stadium. It’s a nice bridge and there were lots of people walking over it to get to a hockey game that was going on downtown. Even though in this picture it looks deserted…

This is just a view from the bridge looking north towards downtown at sunset. Imagine it without the parking lot.

And this is a view looking south a little bit farther along the bridge. If you look closely you can see my apartment building!

imageAnd tonight I cooked up some kale, roasted potatoes with dill yogurt dipping sauce, and a veggie burger with mushrooms and mozzerella.

Also good was that I took all my loose change in today and got $100 back, which I then immediately spent buying frames for my gallery wall. I am sewing up a mini quilt to be part of the selection and once that’s done (hopefully this weekend) I will be able to hang everything and then take some pictures of my bedroom area to show you.

Sorry for the rambling. I need to get back into a regular habit of updating, but for now this is what you get :) Hope everyone has a great weekend! I am working everyday. Money!

  1. well all the food looks so goooood! i made a roasted garlic vinnaigrette that i’ve been putting on baby kale. it is so yummy. not yummy enough for adam, but i think a salad with just kale leaves is a little aggressive for him still. i’ll try again in a year or so!
